Hot Right Now: Courtesy

So it’s utterly baffling to me how many people on this earth lack the so-called element of “common” courtesy in everyday life. Are people just complete assholes these days or does everyone just not give a shit about anyone else. I hope not, because it’s a sad world we live in if that is the case.

What I’m trying to say here is; be nice to people you like and also be courteous to those you don’t even know.

A woman pushed in front of me in the checkout at the fruit shop the other day, I had a full trolley, and she had a bunch of bananas. If she was behind me in the LINE I would’ve been considerate enough to offer for her to complete her purchase first but the fact that she walked in front of me, looked back at me without saying a word and went on to stand there like what she’d done was ok really pissed me off.

So I said “Excuse me.” Ignored. “Excuse me!” Rude bitch turns around. “There is a line, you know…” Oh what? You can’t speak English? You don’t understand what I’m saying? You’re just going to proceed to pay for your bananas and pretend like you don’t understand the concept of wait your fucking turn? No, I don’t buy that. The concept of a line and the way they work is universal you dumb cow, I know you saw me standing there and you wanted to ignore me, which was a prefect display of your rudeness and incivility.

And you might think I’m having a rant about something petty. But I’m not. I hope I’ve made it clear that I don’t care that she paid for her stuff and got out of the shop before me. I just HATE it when people are rude to others, for no reason.

And my courtesy rant goes on from strangers to friends. Take the time and put in some effort with the people you’re sharing the best part of your life with. If they send you a message, reply. If they invite you somewhere, RSVP ASAP, even if the answer is "no thanks I’d rather not come to your dominatrix bondage party" or "my apologies, but I can’t make the Dance Dance Revolution dance off at George St Galaxy World." They will appreciate your honesty and courtesy and so will I. It’s really not hard to show some manners, isn’t that what your mother taught you?

Hot right now: politeness, civility, courteousness. Not right now: rude strangers, flaky friends.
